Hey, would it be possible for you guys to throw in an option to export greyscale with 24bits? The Multiverse terrain generator hasn't quite learnt how to read in RGB colour scales, and 8bit scales don't really cut it (256 height options is very limiting).

Thanks, Doomsberg.

Well I don't know of any file format that really supports 24 bit greyscales. Only TIFF supports 16 bit greyscales. Do you know any other format which supports this?

Can't you use RAW data instead?

I was told by one of teh chief dudes at multiverse that if I want to use a 24bit PNG file it needs to be in greyscale. Is it not actually possible to get 24bit greyscale PNG files?

Also the terrain generator only takes in either csv or PNG seeds. So I cant use any other formats atm. The terrain generator is very far behind the rest of the platform sadly.

Just looked at the png standard. It seems as if png supports up to 16 bit grayscale. But definetly not 24 bit. Can you get some more information from that dudes at multiverse?

Ok, would it be possible to add in 16bit greyscale export then? Working with 8bit is kinda hard (256 different heights is far too limiting).

Thanks.

Currently I'm using DirectX functions to convert/write bitmap formats. I'm quite sure, that these functions don't support 16 bit grayscales. So I cannot add this functionality quickly. I would have to change the whole process for writing bitmap files.

But I'll take a look at that.

Don't worry about it too much, Apparently the way terrain is created in Multiverse is going to change sometime in the future. Thanks anyway,
Doomsberg.
