I've created a few different objects in a program called Wings3D. When I export them as a "Wavefront (.obj)" file, they show up in the preview and display on the terrain. The only problem is that some of the faces don't appear. For objects that were originally verticle, usually the top faces are missing. For a large boulder type object, two random faces on the sides were missing (can see through).

Thx for reporting it, it's a known issue that we have some problems with displaying .obj formats at the moment, even smoothing groups not ever work properly and we'll fix this issue. At the meantime i would recommend the .x format for displaying 3d models within TC.

Can you please upload an obj file which isn't working, so I can take a look at it? You can use the attachment functionality of this forum.

The problem sounds more a less as if the exporter messes up face orientations. So if a face normal is pointing into the wrong direction, it is considered as beeing a back face and therefore culled. Face direction depends on the order in which the 3 vertices of a face are used.

Wings3D exports in a few different formats, but the others don't seem to be compatible:

Nendo (.ndo)
3d Studio (.3ds)
Alias FBX (.fbx)
Cartoon Edges (.eps)
Renderware (.rwx)
VRML (.wrl)

For some reason, PHPBB won't let me upload an .obj file. I think it's only designed to allow pictures and archived or compressed files.

ace gtar gz rar tar zip
gif jpeg jpg png tga tif

But I'll see if I can email it.

OK, thanks for the files.
The problem is the following: Your exporter creates faces with more than 4 vertices. Currently only faces with up to 4 vertices are loaded correctly by TC. But I think, I can fix this. Until then, can you force your mesh exporter to generate triangles and not "complex" faces during export?

That was fast, both for the forum support of object uploads, and the ability to import objects with faces having more than 4 vertices.

Thats the norm here. Can't ask for better support.
