Is there a setting to adjust the size of the exported texturemap as a bmp? it only seems to go up to 512 (maybe because my sector is 512?). when I drop the texturemap onto the terrain in my engine it's very pixelated.

The setting during export just defines how your whole sector is "patched" during export. The value corresponds to heightmap elements covered by the texture not to the number of pixel in that texture.

To achive a higher resolution exported texturemap, you have to set the parameter "texturemap pix. per el." (menu: view->3d view settings->texturing) for the terrain to be exported.

Thanks. I looked in there, but quit smoking recently and my mind is in shambles. I feel like I'm gonna fall apart haha.

Cold turkey? Best of luck to you. I've tried enough times just haven't been successful yet.
