It would be really cool if you could crop out/highlight areas in the terrain(or textured parts) for later use.
Importing and exporting images for this tool would be nice too.

We already thought about area selection in order to apply filters, brushes, ... on that area and to import/export only the selected area. This will be possible some when, but it will take some time.

What do you mean with importing and exporting images? For the texture layer? I talked with another user about it. The problem is the following: internally the TC stores the basic (detail) textures from which a (combined) texture map is computed. If you have an image as final texture map as input, you lose this information. So if you import a texture map, there is no easy way back to the detail textures.

Well lets say you have an area that you'd like to fill in with a somewhat repeating pattern.
Looking at the attachment, you could use the "mini heightmap" to stamp this across the plain.
You could also add some texturing properties to it so that the lighter areas are textured with one kind of texture while the darker areas are textured with another.

I don't know how such a feature would fit into the user interface and the interactive design work flow of TC. I understood, what you mean (at least I hope so), but at the moment I only can think of adding such a feature as separate module besides the "normal" edit modes. Or do you have a good idea how to integrate it into the program?
